Work begins on sequel to “i go home” documentary

08/27/2017

Image from "i go home" documentaryAn i go home sequel is in the works with a planned release date in late 2018. WITF (the Harrisburg PBS affiliate) and the Commonwealth Institute, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania History Coalition Honoring People with Disabilities, are working on the follow-up now.

The original i go home was recently nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award and has been screened at events across the state—including the Consortium’s own July 23 event at the Heinz History Center—and on PBS stations across the country. It is also available online for viewing.

The documentary details the history and struggles of those with intellectual disabilities, focusing in particular on the Pennhurst State School and Hospital in eastern Pennsylvania, which closed in 1987.

The sequel is being developed with a statewide advisory group. Please stay tuned for updates.
