As an entity created by and for people with disabilities, we at WPDHAC are deeply saddened and disgusted by the actions of the caregivers mentioned in this article. People with disabilities are deserving of basic civil and human rights. We are just like everyone else as we have hopes, dreams, and aspirations for the future. The reality is, people often do need help and for someone disguised as a “caregiver” to treat us as inhuman is deeply upsetting. There is no excuse possible for these actions and we believe that this is the definition of a hate crime under the law. Western Pennsylvania Disability History and Action Consortium supports the victims of this case and hopes that the power of justice prevails.
