It is with deep sadness that the Western Pennsylvania Disability History and Action Consortium shares the news of the passing of Marlene O’Leary, a tireless advocate and dedicated leader for disability rights in our community.
Marlene was known for her work in the local disability community. Most recently, she served as director of Disability Options Network Center for Independent Living. Prior to that position, she was the coordinator for Allegheny Link and an administrator at Catholic Charities.
Disability Options Network board member Max Colecchi shared, “I am just devastated with the passing of our Center for Independent Living (CIL) director Marlene O’leary. Marlene had an extensive career in the human services field around the Pittsburgh area. Her energy and passion for what she did rubbed off on every entity of CIL. She had the gift to gab and everyone who knew her felt her heart. The disabled community lost a leader and a friend.”
We invite you to read her full obituary and learn more about her incredible legacy here.
Please join us in remembering Marlene’s unwavering commitment to justice and inclusion, and in keeping her family and loved ones in our thoughts.
