Press Release: Western Pennsylvania Disability History and Action Consortium Receives $25,000 Grant from FISA Foundation to Advance Communication Initiatives

05/07/2024

[Pittsburgh, PA, May 7, 2024] – The Western Pennsylvania Disability History and Action Consortium (The Consortium) is proud to announce it has been awarded a $25,000 grant from FISA Foundation to bolster its communication strategies and outreach efforts.

Founded in 2015, The Consortium has been dedicated to preserving and honoring the historic struggle of individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of human and civil rights. The Consortium also aims to share contemporary lived experiences to promote community access, participation, and equal opportunity. Through presentations, media, events, and exhibits, The Consortium educates the public about the evolution and significance of existing laws and policies while advancing disability rights.

“We are incredibly grateful to FISA Foundation for their generous support,” said Cindy Leonard, Project Director of The Consortium. “This grant will enable us to engage a communications consultant to develop a comprehensive communications plan and update our communications strategy and assets to better articulate our identity and mission to our constituents.”

The $25,000 grant will facilitate the creation of a strategic communications plan tailored to The Consortium’s unique blend of community-based archive and advocacy work. It will also support the updating of essential communication assets, including the organization’s branding, website, digital materials, and printed materials.

“We believe that effective communication is essential in advancing disability rights and promoting inclusivity,” added Tina Calabro, Outreach & Preservation Coordinator. “With the support of FISA Foundation, we are confident that we can amplify our impact and reach a wider audience.”

The Consortium recognizes the important role of FISA Foundation in expanding understanding of and access to disability history.
