Job Posting – Project Scholar

Western Pennsylvania Disability History and Action Consortium (www.wpdhac.org) is seeking candidates – historian, archivist, or graduate-level scholar – for a project to research and write five stories concerning the history of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPoC) with disabilities in Western Pennsylvania.

BIPoC candidates and candidates with a disability are strongly encouraged to apply for this independent contractor position.

  • Time Frame: April 30 – December 31, 2023     
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 12-15 hours per month
  • Hourly rate: $50-60 per hour, depending on experience

Project Tasks:

  • Research, interview, document and write five histories of Western Pennsylvanians with disabilities who are people of color.
  • Keep detailed records of entire writing process, including citations and references.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing skills
  • History research experience
  • Oral history experience
  • Public history experience
  • Scholarly writing experience
  • Experience working with archives a plus
  • Experience with disability history a plus.
